Set for its 15th annual running this spring, the Seashore Classic Half Marathon, 2-Person Relay and 5K race takes runners on an out-and-back loop route through Delaware’s Cape Henlopen State Park.

Half-Marathon,5k

The race follows an out-and-back course that starts and finishes at Irish Eyes Restaurant on Anglers Road, along the Rehoboth Canal that separates the historic downtown streets of this Delaware city known as the “the First Town in the First State” — thanks to its history as the state’s first settlement, and Delaware’s distinction as the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution — and the beachfront homes along nearby Breakwater Harbor. From Irish Eyes, runners follow Market Street and Bayview Avenue to Cape Henlopen Drive, and then head onto the pathways that parallel Cape Henlopen Drive and head into the state park. Once on the trails, runners follow a double-loop stretch through the park, covering the same route twice — first in a clockwise direction, and then in a counter-clockwise direction after they hit the turnaround point at Cape Henlopen Drive and Engineer Road. Once runners make it back all the way through the park — which is home to historic military installations like the World War II observation tower, where visitors can take in a panoramic view of the cape, the ocean and Delaware Bay — they’ll head back onto Cape Henlopen Drive, and then retrace their steps along Bayview and Market Street back to the Irish Eyes Restaurant where they’ll cross the race finish line. In addition to the individual half marathon for runners — which has a scheduled starting time of 8:00 AM — there is also a two-person half marathon relay for men’s, women’s and coed teams, as well as a 5K for runners and walkers.
