Joyce, the Purple Run’s race director, has been a lifelong Prince fan since her grandmother (accidentally) gifted her a Prince cassette tape in the early ‘80s. In celebration of the artist, costumes are welcome—don your favorite raspberry beret and get ready to run.
You won’t have to grapple with traffic during these races, all of which take place on paved trails closed to vehicles. All three races begin from the Dune Overlook and initially follow the park’s Purple Trail.
Half marathon runners will run three 4.37-mile laps. Beginning counterclockwise, runners will lap the start/finish line three times to complete their circuit where they started. Walkers and strollers are both welcome on this course, which features minimal inclines and declines and includes a generous 3 ½ hour time limit for all races.
Aid will be offered every 1-2 miles, with water cups and Hammer Heed energy drink provided at the stations.
This race celebrates “this thing called life” in all of its forms. For 2023, participants are invited to contribute to a Prince Dedication near the start/finish line, decorating the area with Prince memorabilia and posters, purple accessories, and more for the duration of the event.
In recognition of the color purple’s significance to a number of causes—including awareness and aid for Alzheimer’s Disease, animal abuse, eating disorders, and 9/11 victims—participants are invited to contribute to the cause of their choice.
