Challenging, hilly and beautifully scenic, the Napa Wine Country Trail Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K takes runners on a tour of the hills, babbling streams and trails of Calistoga’s Bothe-Napa Valley State Park, called a local treasure by many and located just minutes from the town’s many restaurants and wineries.

Throughout the park’s lush single-track trails, runners will traverse dirt and sometimes rocky hiking trails, all the while surrounded by majestic redwood, oak, madrone and bay forests. Roughly 270 runners crossed the finish line in all three race distances combined in 2013, including 133 finishers in the half marathon alone.

From the starting line at the park’s picnic area, runners in the half-marathon will run the roughly six-mile course twice, following an out-and-back loop route along the park’s Coyote Peak Trail, South Fork Trail, Ritchey Canyon Trail and Redwood Trail, running alongside the waters of Ritchey Creek for much of the early and later parts of the race. Once those running the 13.1-mile course reach the aid station back at the picnic area — the half-marathon half-way point — they turn around and run the same course a second time. Hikers and walkers welcome. There’s a 6-hour course time limit for all races, which means runners in the half marathon will need to keep a pace of 27:30 minutes per mile or faster (that’s 13:45 minutes per mile for the full marathon). So there’s plenty of time for walkers and hikers to finish the race within the official time limit.
