The Flight Deck Half Marathon, formerly known as Race the Runways, is a beloved running event held in Brunswick, Maine, at Brunswick Landing, which operates on a real airport runway.

Runners begin their journey by traversing 5 miles on the Brunswick Landing tarmac, including the inactive runway and taxiway, providing a rare opportunity to run on a real airport runway. The course then takes participants on a tour of the neighborhood surrounding Flight Deck Brewery. Known for its flat terrain and optimal conditions, the Flight Deck Half Marathon is known for setting personal records. After crossing the finish line, participants can enjoy a post-race celebration at Flight Deck Brewery’s award-winning tasting room and family-friendly beer garden. This includes complimentary craft beer for participants aged 21 and over, along with live music, food, and brewery games like Giant Jenga and cornhole. The Flight Deck Half Marathon and 5K have a rich history, originally hosted by the Maine Track Club and the Midcoast Triathlon Club in 2011 under the name Race the Runways. In 2021, the race was reimagined and revived by Ventures Endurance as the Flight Deck Half Marathon & 5K, with improvements such as the post-race party at Flight Deck Brewing. Held in the fall each year, the event has quickly become a popular attraction for runners from all over New England, coinciding with the start of Maine’s fall foliage season. Flight Deck Brewing, located at Brunswick Landing, serves as the host venue for the race. Opened in 2017, Flight Deck Brewing offers a unique tasting room experience and a constantly evolving tap list, making it the perfect spot to celebrate after completing the race.
